Kankudai Oct. 25, 2020

This is me performing a kata that I used in competition in the 1970's and 1980's. Then I was 50 pounds lighter, had hair, lower stances, higher kicks, more snap, and didn't suck air like I did after doing it.

Bassai Dai Oct. 17, 2020

This is me, at 67 years old, attempting to perfect my kata, Bassai Dai. Though I was taught, literally, over 30 such forms, maybe more, after about 10 years of not practicing karate and focusing on Tai Chi, I am forcing my old body to get this right. It's a nice goal.  By the way, the quiet KIA's are due to my recording early in the morning, and I didn't want to wake up my neighbors. 😁😂

Water in Hand

A thought is sometimes like water. You can pour it in a cup, drink and nourish your body, or you can hold it in your hand and watch it disappear.

Theres a lot you can learn from Meerkats. They live and fight as a group, are aware of their sureoundings, and eat scorpions.

Bassai Dai Shotokan Karate Kata

I recorded this video of me, doing a karate kata I had not practiced for over 10 years due to my focus on Tai Chi and Qigong. I was inspired after watching a video of a senior instructor in his 80's exercising kihon and kata (see below). So, I decided to switch focus, still continuing my quest with the internal martial arts but adding the wisdom of karate-do. Because of the time not practicing, my Bassai had multiple flaws and weaknesses that I'm striving to perfect as the Kaizen Sensei.

Shorinji Ryu Seiunchin Kata

For you Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement practitioners who implement kata in your processes, remember, it’s not what you know, but how you execute the prepatterned steps.  Karate kata trains you on this.  Os.
